7 YEAR OLD, EMILIA PLOWRIGHT’S ½ MARATHON CYCLE RIDE FOR EQUIPOLLENCE

On Saturday,  29th May local Runnymede resident, 7 year old Emilia Plowright, cycled 21.22 kilometres to raise money for Equipollence, a charitable organisation committed to creating a better future for young adults and adults with severe mental and/or physical disabilities.

When Emilia heard that Equipollence were organising a sponsored walk and that members of her family in Japan and France were taking part, she decided she wanted to help and add England to the map.

And help she did – to date, Emilia has raised a fantastic £784 for Equipollence via JustGiving by cycling a half marathon on the same day the official walk took place in Revel (France), with others joining across the world in Corsica, Japan, Canada and Belgium.

To prepare for her challenge, Emilia spent time cycling from New Haw to Weybridge, making sure she cycled up the hill on Brooklands Road.

All of the sponsorship Emilia has raised will be donated directly to Equipollence and will go towards funding their project “living together”, building an inclusive, supported environment in La Téoule and funding the care required to enable its habitants to ‘live together’ with the local community whilst enjoying and participating in the city life around them.

“On 29th May, people walked, ran and cycled together for Equipollence across the world to help raise money for our “living together” project. We are extremely thankful to everyone that took part and in particular, to courageous little Emilia Plowright, who became the STAR of Equipollence by completing a half marathon on her bike and proudly raising more than £750.”

Thierry Clamens, Member of Equipollence

Equipollence wants to offer disabled young adults and adults an environment within which they can develop and flourish, in the small city of Revel, South West of France. Equipollence is committing to the creation of a more inclusive city, a supported habitat that offers a different future for young adults and adults with severe mental and/or physical disabilities: one that will allow them to live in a place that is not an enclosed institution but a shared environment. The members of Equipollence are all working together to make sure their project ‘living together’ in a place where everyone is welcome, comes to life, providing a shared and supported setting that enables its habitants to participate in the community and local city life around them.
