Following the recent government announcement, we are working towards re-opening in May when indoor entertainments are permitted to open. This is likely to be Tuesday 18th May, but keep an eye on our website and social media for updates. In the meantime, we’ve been busy behind the scenes getting ready for your return.
Local Audio Guide Walks
Now that the weather is improving, and lockdown restrictions are easing, why not go out and about in the Borough with one of our new FREE audio walks?
These circular walks, which can be accessed by using the free izi.TRAVEL app on your smartphone, work using your GPS location to activate the commentary for each point of interest. When done, there are directions for the next one.
1. download the izi.TRAVEL app from your usual app store
2. search for Chertsey
3. select your walk and off you go!
Or just listen to the history commentary online from the comfort of your home at www.izi.travel
At the time of writing there are two Chertsey Abbey walks (one for families), and one for St. Ann’s Hill but more are in the pipeline. We are working with the Ottershaw Society’s Hannah Lane, and Thorpe’s Jill Williams to create walks around the villages, which should all be available by Easter. Town trails for Chertsey and Addlestone are also being written which should be available in time for the summer. We think you’ll enjoy them and hope that you leave a (good) review!
Escape to the Roaring Twenties
To complement our current fashion exhibition Grace Evans, Keeper of Costume, will be giving a fashion talk online, on 20 April, at 7pm. The fully illustrated talk will cover many aspects of 1920s fashion, using examples of stylish day wear, glittering evening wear, underwear and sportswear from our collection. Tickets cost £3.00 and can be booked online by 16 April at www.chertsey-museum.arttickets.org.uk.
The talk and exhibition tour will be given via Zoom with the meeting ID and passcode emailed to booked participants 48 hours before the event.
