MAYOR OF RUNNYMEDE

Last October I was so honoured and privileged to become Mayor of Runnymede. During the last seven months, due to Covid restrictions, it has been difficult to be out in the Borough of Runnymede and to meet the residents as I would have hoped.

I do now feel light is at the end of the tunnel and we are looking forward from June to try to get some normality back into our lives.

The mayoral diary from mid May is starting to shape up with more invitations and events, so if there are plans being made in your area where you feel I could become involved, please contact me through Katie Edmond, Mayor’s Secretary:-

Mayormaking takes place on 19th May where I will have the honour of accepting the Mayoral position until May 2022.  I am proposing to support my charities – Dementia Carers Support.  This holds a special part of my heart, as they helped with my Father when he suffered from Alzheimers.

The other is a Mayoral legacy of trees. I am passionate about the environment especially trees so really want to focus on all areas of Runnymede to encourage tree planting for all ages.  Also with the sadness surrounding the loss of so many loved ones during the pandemic and not being able to say goodbye.

I hope some small areas for reflection can be provided.

In conjunction with “Save The Oaks in Surrey”, some oak saplings have been rescued and being looked after ready for new homes with just a small donation required.

My first event is a Design competition for all school children in Runnymede aged 4 – 11 and information has been sent to all schools in the area,  It is called “Look Forward”. In July the winning entries will be displayed at the Civic Offices in The Mayor’s Parlour with an afternoon tea provided for the winners and runners up.

Please all keep safe and keep well and cannot wait to see you all soon

Cllr Elaine Gill
