Community Life

THE HOLME FARM COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS & GARDEN APIARY TEAM

At the Holme Farm Project, we the apiary team hope to create a community group apiary; a collection of honey bee hives some of which will be educational hives.  These will each house up to eighty thousand hard working bees during the summer and will be used to show small groups of interested people and older school children the hive in all its wonder and complexity.  We hope to find the Queen and the thousands of her tiny eggs, the baby bees known as the brood and maybe see the processes that happen in total darkness…the waggle dance where returning worker bees tell their comrades where the best flowers are, the feeding and caring for the newly hatched bees and sadly some of common though not fatal diseases in the hive.

Further educational/beekeeping training, we hope will be sourced and supported by the local British Beekeeping Association group, which a few of the apiary team are members.
