The Royal British Legion has been supporting Service men and women, ex-serving personnel and their families since 1921. And we’re not going anywhere.
By 1921, the tradition of a Two Minute Silence had been established. The first ever Poppy Appeal was also held that year. The poppies sold out almost immediately and raised over £106,000; a considerable amount at the time. This money was used to help WW1 veterans with employment and housing.
Today we’re at the heart of a national network looking after our Armed Forces community. The Legion is here to help serving and ex-serving personnel all year round, every day of the week. Our support starts after seven days of service and continues through life, long after service is over.
Our local Legion office is located in Addlestone, with a club in Church Road. Like lots of organisations we are always looking for new members and volunteers especially at this time of year with the Poppy Appeal. We have some strategies for keeping our fundraisers safe this year.
The Royal British Legion is a force for good and in these difficult times, we recognise the important contribution of our servicemen and women. As you know the Poppy Appeal is launched in October with 8 November as Remembrance Sunday. We need volunteer Poppy Sellers and new members to join the Branch which due to the laying up of the Chertsey flag means that Addlestone Branch covers both towns and district.
