As the school day finished at Green Oaks Primary, the children were not as excitable as they usually were because they had been told that the school might have to close due to funding of much needed repairs.
Two of the school children, 10-year-old twins, George and Elsie, were being met by their Cousin, Sandy. ‘What shall we do today?’ Sandy asked, ‘Would you like to have a boat ride on the lake in the park? ’The boat ride would be fun’ they exclaimed and headed towards the park.
There were not that many boats out on the lake, so they soon hired one, and headed towards the centre of the lake where there was a small island. As they got nearer to the island Elsie shouted out “I just saw something moving about in the bushes!” They all looked in the direction where Elsie was pointing but couldn’t see anything moving. Elsie insisted that she saw something so Sandy guided the boat to a slope which enabled them to get onto the island.
Suddenly, movement could be seen by all, so the three of them stopped and waited to see if they could spot anything. Suddenly, in front of them was a small Pixie who told them that he had been waiting for them to help him rescue his Fairy Princess, Emerald. The Pixie went on to tell them that Princess Emerald and himself had been held captive in a cave but managed to escape and had sent a ‘Wish’ asking for help.
The Pixie asked the three to follow him and said, ‘Don’t look back!’ ‘If you do it will set off a warning signal to the evil Groata” who imprisoned him and the Princess.’ George asked, “whatever is a Groata?” The Pixie explained it was an evil creature who has been trying to rule the fairy kingdom for many years.
They followed the Pixie into a dark cave. Sandy had to use her mobile phone to see where they were going. Eventually they came to a clearing where the Princess could be seen chained to a metal post.
Sandy and George tugged at the post, which started to move out of the ground, which enabled them to slide the post away from Emerald’s chains. They then headed back to the entrance of the cave, but because they had turned around, a warning was sent out to the evil Groata.
Loud grunting and heavy stomping could be heard as the Groata got near. Quickly, they all clambered up some steps cut in the side of the cave, which led to a ledge a little distance from the cave’s entrance, just before the evil looking Groata rushed in.

As they reached the outside, Sandy noticed some rocks piled high above the cave’s entrance. She climbed up and gave an almighty push. The rocks gave way and tumbled down blocking the entrance to the cave. They ran as fast as they could to the boat, and in the distance a huge cloud of dust could be seen rising from the cave where the evil Groata was trapped cutting off the air supply and causing the beast to get larger til finally exploded.
As they said their goodbyes, the Princess gave Sandy a small silk bag, and said this is for you and the children. As they walked home, they stopped to open the silk bag, and inside were three beautiful diamonds.
Upon arriving home, they told their parents about their exciting adventure, and on showing them the diamonds they knew it was true. The children’s Dad took the diamonds to a jeweller who bought them for enough money enabling the much-needed repairs to be carried out, so the school could stay open, and all the children stay together.
