ENJOY LOCAL GREEN SPACES SAFELY

Runnymede has been named among the top three best places to live in England for access to public green space.  The study by Spaceslide shows Runnymede residents have more than two million squared kilometres of space to enjoy, which is the equivalent to the size of about 500 football pitches.  Doing one form of exercise a day can have such a positive impact on your mental and physical wellbeing and is recommended to all, especially in the current climate we find ourselves.

Runnymede’s formal parks are:

Victory Park

A short walk from Addlestone town centre, Victory Park offers a range of play equipment in an attractive environment with trees and flowerbeds.

Heathervale Recreation Grounds

Close to the centre of Chertsey, the Orchard and Abbeyfield is a tranquil park with an interesting history. It was once part of Chertsey Abbey and a small section of the old abbey wall and remnants of the abbey ponds and moats can still be seen there.

An attractive venue, popular for cricket, football, and bowls and is home to a number of local sports clubs. The woodland behind the main park provides pleasant walks and one route leads back to the village.

Chertsey Recreation Grounds

A popular venue for a number of sports and it is home to the Chertsey Bowls Club. For children, the park offers a large play area and in the summer the paddling pool is open.

Guildford Road, Chertsey, KT16 9BW

All of Runnymede Borough Council’s formal parks open at 8am on weekdays and 9am on weekends and bank holidays. Closing times range from 4.30pm to 9pm depending on daylight hours. Not all facilities (such as tennis courts, outdoor gym equipment and paddling pools) are available for use under the current restrictions.

The Council encourages residents to adhere the lockdown measures when out and about by keeping socially distant and exercising locally in your nearest park or open space. It’s best to avoid well known beauty spots which may be busier and where social distancing might be more difficult.  If your child is enjoying the playgrounds, make sure they sanitise their hands before and after use and wipe down any equipment to maintain a safe environment for all.
