Neighbourhood Watch is a grassroots charitable movement. It is the largest crime prevention voluntary movement in England and Wales and has upwards of 2.3 million members. Schemes are run by volunteers across England and Wales supported by volunteer Associations, and by Neighbourhood Watch Network, the national umbrella organisation for the movement.
There are more than 120 watches across Runnymede with a reach of about 10,000 residents. That’s about 12% of the borough.
Crime in Runnymede is about 5% below the National Average but slightly above the average for Surrey. Around 70% can be categorised as Anti-Social Behaviour type crime with the rest being theft type crimes.
We support individuals and groups to create safer, stronger and active communities.
We believe in a caring society that is focused on trust and respect, in which people are safe from crime and enjoy a good quality of life.
We help people feel less afraid, vulnerable or isolated in the place where they live.
Why should I join Neighbourhood Watch?
By becoming a member you have taken the first step to making the area that you live a stronger and safer place to be. We encourage you to connect with your neighbours and others within your community who also share your desire to help others.
We’ll send you updates about important national news, campaigns and crime prevention advice, relevant to you.
We have collated a range of resources and materials, for you to use in your own schemes and communities. They tackle a range of both traditional crimes and modern and provide practical advice with materials which are available to download and print. The toolkits available are currently: burglary, domestic abuse, serious violence and child sex exploitation.
We provide awareness of types of crimes that affect our communities such as vehicle crime, elder abuse, disability hate crime and advice on access to CCTV.
Neighbourhood Watch is not just about crime awareness, it’s about supporting communities and tackling issues within them. The effect on our communities caused by Youth isolation, loneliness and vulnerability is evident. In Runnymede we still have Public Spaces Protection Orders in place for over two years because of ASB!
