Memorial Gardens in Virginia Water enjoyed a buzz of community spirit in the sunshine for the 2nd annual VW Jumble Trail on 29 May. Enjoying the sunshine, bargain hunters shopped for bric a brac, artwork, plants, toys and clothes. Community organisations were able to get their first face-to-face meetings with residents for many months. Amongst the organisations represented was The Neighbourhood Plan, Wentworth Residents Association, Friends of Cabrera, Runnymede Foodbank and AWBS women’s group.
Our new Mayor of Runnymede, Elaine Gill, met almost every stall holder and found a few bargains. Along with Councillors Jonathan Hulley and Chris Howarth, Dr Ben Spencer, MP, enjoyed chatting with Virginia Water constituents. Organiser, Michelle Ford, said “It’s been a wonderful day of charity fundraising and community spirit – thousands of pounds were raised for the renovation of the Scout Hall, Runnymede Foodbank, Friends Cabrera and other local charities – but most of all it felt great to see everyone in the heart and soul of the village after such a long time. It’s a win-win event: we can have a good clear-out, people pick up a bargain, make a few pounds and raise many more for charity.”
